Indian Army NCC Special Entry Scheme 124th Course Recruitment 2026 Overview

The Indian Army has officially announced a golden opportunity for young and dynamic graduates through the NCC Special Entry Scheme 124th Course (October 2026). This recruitment drive aims to fill 70 prestigious vacancies for Short Service Commission (SSC) Non-Technical posts for both Men and Women, including wards of Battle Casualties of Army Personnel. Serving in the Indian Army is not just a profession; it is a lifestyle of honor, courage, and unparalleled pride. If you hold an NCC 'C' certificate and dream of donning the olive green uniform, this is the most direct pathway to becoming a Commissioned Officer.

About the Indian Army and Short Service Commission

The Indian Army is one of the largest and most respected armed forces globally. Joining through the Short Service Commission (SSC) means you will be granted a commission for an initial tenure of 10 years, which is extendable by another 4 years, subject to performance and willingness. Candidates selected through the NCC Special Entry Scheme will undergo a rigorous 49-week training program at the prestigious Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai. After successfully completing the training, candidates will be commissioned at the rank of Lieutenant.

Job Profile, Roles, and Responsibilities

As a Lieutenant in the Indian Army, your responsibilities go far beyond standard managerial duties. You will be responsible for leading a platoon of highly trained infantry soldiers, managing modern tactical equipment, and ensuring the physical and mental well-being of the troops under your command. Officers are expected to plan tactical operations, manage intelligence, and actively participate in nation-building and disaster relief operations when required. The role demands high physical fitness, quick decision-making under pressure, and exemplary leadership qualities.

Salary, Allowances, and Career Progression

The Indian Army offers one of the most lucrative and secure remuneration packages in the country. A newly commissioned Lieutenant receives a basic pay in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix, starting at Rs. 56,100/- and going up to Rs. 1,77,500/- per month. Additionally, officers receive a Military Service Pay (MSP) of Rs. 15,500/- per month.
Apart from the basic pay, the compensation package includes Dearness Allowance (DA), High Altitude Allowance, Field Area Allowance, Transport Allowance, and Free Ration. The Cost to Company (CTC) for a newly commissioned officer roughly amounts to 17-18 Lakhs per annum. Promotions are time-bound up to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (after 13 years of service), and further promotions are based on selection boards.

Detailed Eligibility Criteria

For NCC candidates, the minimum educational qualification is a Degree from a recognized University or equivalent with an aggregate of minimum 50% marks taking into account marks of all the years. Additionally, the candidate must have served for a minimum of two or three years (as applicable) in the Senior Division/Wing of NCC and must have obtained a minimum of a 'B' Grade in the NCC 'C' Certificate Exam. Wards of Battle Casualties do not require the NCC 'C' certificate but must possess a graduation degree with 50% marks.

Selection Process Details

Unlike regular entries, the NCC Special Entry does not involve a written examination. Applications are shortlisted based on graduation percentage. Shortlisted candidates are directly called for the Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview. The SSB is a comprehensive 5-day evaluation comprising Psychological Tests, Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks, and a Personal Interview. Candidates who clear the SSB must undergo a thorough medical examination. A final merit list is prepared based on SSB marks, and joining letters are issued accordingly.
