Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), India's largest commercial enterprise and the leading refiner in the country, has released an exciting recruitment notification for 108 Apprentice positions at its prestigious Mathura Refinery complex in Uttar Pradesh. This apprenticeship program, announced in February 2026, offers exceptional opportunities for diploma holders and graduate students to gain hands-on industrial experience in one of Asia's most advanced petroleum refineries while receiving competitive stipends and learning from industry experts. The Mathura Refinery, with a current capacity of 8.0 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA), is a state-of-the-art facility that plays a crucial role in meeting India's energy demands. The IOCL Mathura Refinery Apprentice program is designed under the Apprentices Act 1961, which aims to provide practical training to young talent in various technical trades and disciplines. Apprentices will be engaged for a period of one year (extendable based on performance and organizational requirements) and will work alongside experienced professionals in different operational areas including refinery operations, maintenance, laboratory, instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, and civil departments. This program serves as an excellent launchpad for careers in the oil and gas sector, with many apprentices eventually securing permanent positions in IOCL or other PSU/private sector companies based on their performance and available vacancies. The 108 apprentice positions are distributed across multiple technical trades including Trade Apprentices (Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Turner, Welder, Machinist, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic, Electronics Mechanic, etc.) and Technician Apprentices (Diploma holders in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Chemical, Civil Engineering, and related streams). The refinery environment provides exposure to cutting-edge technologies including advanced process control systems, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), safety instrumented systems, and modern refining processes such as fluid catalytic cracking (FCC), delayed coking, hydrocracking, and various product treatment units. Selected apprentices will receive monthly stipend as per IOCL norms, which ranges from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 14,000 per month depending on qualification (ITI/Diploma) and year of training. Additionally, apprentices are covered under Employees State Insurance (ESI) scheme for medical benefits and receive other allowances as applicable. The training includes both theoretical classroom sessions and practical on-the-job training under the supervision of qualified supervisors. Upon successful completion of apprenticeship, candidates receive a National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) or State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT), which is recognized across industries in India and internationally. This apprenticeship not only provides valuable work experience but also significantly enhances employment prospects in the competitive job market. Candidates meeting eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply online through the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portal before the deadline.
