Recruitment 2026 - Overview

The Andaman and Nicobar State Sports Council has announced recruitment for 20 positions of Coaches and Instructors across multiple sports disciplines. This recruitment drive aims to strengthen the coaching infrastructure by engaging qualified, experienced, and dedicated sports professionals who will identify raw talent, provide systematic training, develop technical and tactical skills, and prepare athletes for competitive excellence at district, state, national, and international levels.

The positions are offered on a contractual basis for an initial period of 1 year with provision for annual renewal based on performance assessment and organizational requirements. Selected coaches and instructors will be deployed across various sports facilities, training centers, schools, and community sports programs throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, contributing to grassroots sports development and elite athlete preparation.

Educational Qualification and Professional Requirements

Candidates must possess recognized coaching qualifications and certifications specific to their respective sports disciplines. Acceptable qualifications include Diploma in Sports Coaching from National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala or Regional Centers, Diploma/Certificate in Coaching from Sports Authority of India (SAI) recognized institutions, Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Physical Education (B.P.Ed / M.P.Ed) with specialization in relevant sport, recognized coaching certification from National/State Sports Federations in the respective discipline, or equivalent coaching qualifications from government-recognized sports institutions.

In addition to formal qualifications, candidates should have practical coaching experience at school, club, district, or state level. Candidates with proven track records of producing medal-winning athletes, experience in conducting training camps, and exposure to modern coaching methodologies will be given preference. Candidates who have represented their state or country in competitive sports will receive additional consideration during selection.

Age Limit with Gender-specific Provisions

Age limits vary by gender to accommodate different recruitment policies: Male candidates must be between 18 to 45 years of age as on the closing date of application (15th February 2026). Female candidates must be between 18 to 50 years of age as on the closing date, receiving 5 additional years compared to male candidates as per special provisions for encouraging women in sports coaching roles.

Age is calculated based on valid proof of date of birth (10th certificate, birth certificate, or other government-issued document). Age relaxation may be provided for SC/ST/OBC candidates as per Government of India norms if applicable and specified in the detailed notification. Ex-sportspersons and candidates from Andaman and Nicobar Islands may receive additional age relaxation as per local recruitment policies.

Salary and Remuneration

Selected Coaches and Instructors will receive a consolidated monthly remuneration of Rs. 32,000/- (Rupees Thirty-Two Thousand only). This consolidated salary is all-inclusive without separate allowances like DA, HRA, or TA. The remuneration package is designed to be competitive for contractual sports coaching positions in Union Territory administration.

In addition to monthly salary, coaches may be entitled to benefits such as accommodation facilities at sports hostels or training centers (subject to availability), sports kits and training equipment for conducting coaching sessions, insurance coverage during the contract period, participation in coaching development programs and workshops organized by SAI or other sports bodies, and travel allowances when required to accompany teams for outstation competitions or training camps (as per rules).

The salary is paid monthly through bank transfer directly to the coach's bank account. Annual increments or salary revisions during the contract period will be as per Sports Council policies and government directives. Performance-linked incentives may be provided for coaches whose trainees achieve exceptional results in state, national, or international competitions.

Selection Process and Evaluation Criteria

The Sports Council employs a comprehensive selection process to identify the most suitable candidates:

Stage 1 - Application Screening: All applications received before the deadline are screened for eligibility including educational qualifications, coaching certifications, age limit, experience, and completeness of application with all required documents and certificates.

Stage 2 - Physical Fitness Test: Shortlisted candidates must undergo physical fitness assessment demonstrating basic fitness levels essential for sports coaching. Tests may include running (800m/1000m/1500m depending on age and gender), strength exercises (push-ups, sit-ups), flexibility tests, and agility assessments. Minimum qualifying standards will be specified and candidates must meet prescribed norms to qualify for further stages.

Stage 3 - Practical Coaching Demonstration: This is the most critical evaluation stage where candidates must demonstrate their coaching abilities. Candidates may be required to conduct mock coaching sessions with students/athletes, demonstrate technical skills and drills in their sport, explain coaching methodologies and training periodization, show knowledge of sports science including biomechanics, physiology, and sports psychology, and display communication skills and ability to motivate athletes.

A panel of expert evaluators including senior coaches, sports administrators, and technical experts from respective sports federations assess candidates on technical knowledge, teaching methodology, communication clarity, demonstration ability, session planning, and overall coaching competence.

Stage 4 - Personal Interview: Qualified candidates appear before an interview panel comprising Sports Council officials, technical experts, and administrators. The interview assesses understanding of modern coaching techniques and sports science, knowledge of rules, regulations, and latest developments in the sport, motivation and passion for developing athletes, willingness to work in island conditions and travel to remote areas, ideas for talent identification and sports development in the islands, and overall personality and suitability for the coaching role.

Stage 5 - Document Verification: Candidates selected after interview must produce original certificates for verification including educational certificates, coaching diplomas/certifications, age proof, sports achievements/medals/participation certificates, experience letters from previous coaching assignments, and any other documents claimed in the application.

Final Selection: Based on cumulative assessment across all stages, a merit list is prepared discipline-wise. Selection is made strictly in order of merit for each sport category subject to availability of vacancies and satisfactory completion of all formalities.

Terms and Conditions

Selected candidates will be engaged on purely contractual basis for 1 year initially. Contract renewal annually based on performance and requirement - no automatic renewal. Posting anywhere in Andaman & Nicobar Islands as per Sports Council needs including remote islands. No claim for regularization or permanent employment. Notice period of 15 days by either party for contract termination. Coaches must maintain discipline, punctuality, and professional conduct. Coaches may be required to travel with teams and stay at outstation locations. The decision of the Sports Council on all matters including eligibility, selection, posting, and service conditions shall be final and binding.
