Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), India's flagship national oil company and one of the largest integrated energy companies in Asia, has announced apprentice recruitment for 121 positions at its prestigious Haldia Refinery complex in West Bengal. Released on 11 February 2026, this recruitment notification (Advertisement No. PH/R/01/2025-26(APP)-III) offers exceptional opportunities for ITI trade certificate holders and diploma engineers to gain invaluable industrial experience in one of the most technologically advanced petroleum refineries in India while receiving competitive monthly stipends and comprehensive on-the-job training under the Apprentices Act 1961. The Haldia Refinery, commissioned in 1975 with current refining capacity of 7.5 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA), is strategically located in Haldia port town of Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal. This coastal refinery processes crude oil into various petroleum products including Motor Spirit (Petrol), High Speed Diesel, Aviation Turbine Fuel, LPG, Naphtha, Kerosene, and other special products. The refinery complex includes sophisticated process units such as Crude Distillation Units, Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit, Delayed Coker Unit, Hydrocracker, various Hydrotreaters, and utilities including Captive Power Plant, making it an ideal training ground for young technical professionals aspiring to build careers in the oil and gas industry. The 121 apprentice positions comprise two main categories: Trade Apprentices for ITI qualified candidates in various mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation trades, and Technician Apprentices for diploma holders in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, and Civil Engineering disciplines. The apprenticeship program is designed to provide hands-on practical training complemented by theoretical classroom sessions, ensuring apprentices gain comprehensive knowledge of refinery operations, safety protocols, maintenance practices, quality control procedures, and modern automation systems including Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems used extensively in petroleum refineries. Selected apprentices will undergo training for a period of one year (12 months), during which they will receive monthly stipend ranging from Rs. 8,610 to Rs. 12,760 based on their qualification level (ITI/Diploma) as per the Apprenticeship Rules. Additionally, apprentices are covered under Employees State Insurance (ESI) Corporation scheme providing medical benefits to them and their dependents. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship period, candidates will be awarded a National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) or State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT), which is highly valued by industries across India and internationally. Many apprentices who perform exceptionally well during their training are considered for regular employment in IOCL or receive preference in subsequent IOCL recruitments, making this an excellent stepping stone for long-term career growth in the energy sector. Interested eligible candidates must apply online through the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portal before the deadline of 24 February 2026.
