Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), a premier Navratna public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, has announced an exciting opportunity for ITI qualified youth through its Trade Apprenticeship Program 2026. This recruitment drive aims to engage 47 apprentice trainees at the Malanjkhand Copper Project (MCP) located in the Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. This initiative is part of HCL's commitment to skill development and providing practical industrial training to young technical professionals under the provisions of the Apprentices Act, 1961.
Hindustan Copper Limited is India's only vertically integrated copper producing company with mining, beneficiation, smelting, refining, and continuous cast rod manufacturing capabilities. Established in 1967, HCL has been at the forefront of copper mining and processing in India with operations spread across several states. The Malanjkhand Copper Project is one of the largest open-cast copper mines in Asia, making it an ideal training ground for apprentices to gain exposure to modern mining technologies, heavy machinery operations, electrical systems, and industrial processes.
The apprenticeship program represents a golden opportunity for ITI pass-outs and 10th standard qualified candidates to receive structured on-the-job training in a world-class industrial environment. The training period is fixed at one year during which apprentices will work alongside experienced technicians, engineers, and operators, gaining hands-on experience in their respective trades. This practical exposure not only enhances technical skills but also instills workplace discipline, safety consciousness, and professional work ethics essential for a successful career in the manufacturing and mining sectors.
The recruitment notification invites applications for multiple trades including Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Machinist, Turner, Draughtsman (Mechanical), Wireman, and other essential technical trades. These positions are critical for the smooth operation of mining equipment, electrical installations, maintenance workshops, and processing plants at the Malanjkhand Copper Project. Apprentices will receive comprehensive training covering theoretical knowledge, practical skills, safety protocols, quality standards, and modern industrial practices.
What makes this apprenticeship particularly attractive is the monthly stipend provided during the training period. As per the Apprentices Act and HCL policy, apprentices will receive a stipend ranging from Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 9,000 per month depending on their qualification level and trade category. This stipend helps apprentices sustain themselves during the training period while acquiring valuable industrial skills. Additionally, upon successful completion of the one-year apprenticeship, candidates will be awarded a National Apprenticeship Certificate recognized across India, which significantly enhances their employability in both public and private sector organizations.
The selection process for this apprenticeship program is transparent and merit-based. HCL is conducting an Employment Fair on 04 February 2026 at the Malanjkhand Copper Project premises where eligible candidates can walk in with their documents, undergo scrutiny, and participate in the selection process on the same day. This walk-in format eliminates the need for lengthy application procedures and provides immediate opportunity for candidates to showcase their qualifications and secure apprenticeship positions.
Candidates interested in applying must meet specific eligibility criteria including age limits (18 to 25 years with relaxations for reserved categories), educational qualifications (ITI pass in relevant trade or 10th standard for certain trades), and physical fitness standards necessary for working in mining and industrial environments. Preference may be given to candidates from the local area of Balaghat district and surrounding regions, in line with the company's policy of promoting local employment and skill development.
The Malanjkhand Copper Project, spread over a vast area with state-of-the-art mining equipment, processing plants, workshops, electrical substations, and support facilities, offers an unparalleled learning environment for apprentices. The project employs modern mining techniques including computerized drilling, GPS-guided excavators, automated crushing and grinding circuits, and advanced metallurgical processes for copper extraction. Apprentices will gain exposure to these cutting-edge technologies, preparing them for careers in the rapidly evolving mining and manufacturing industries.
During the apprenticeship period, trainees will be covered under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme, providing them with medical benefits and accident insurance. They will also receive safety equipment, uniforms, and access to training facilities as per HCL standards. The training curriculum is designed in consultation with the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, ensuring national standards are maintained.
This apprenticeship program not only provides immediate training opportunities but also opens doors for future career advancement. Many former apprentices of Hindustan Copper have successfully secured permanent employment with HCL or other reputed organizations in the mining, manufacturing, power, and infrastructure sectors. The practical experience gained, combined with the national certificate, makes apprentices highly sought after in the job market.
Interested candidates must note that the Employment Fair is scheduled for 04 February 2026 at a specific venue within the Malanjkhand Copper Project campus. Candidates should plan their travel accordingly and arrive at the venue with all original certificates, multiple photocopies of documents, passport-size photographs, and their ITI marksheets. The selection process will involve document verification, checking of eligibility criteria, possible written tests or skill tests depending on the number of applicants, and preparation of a final merit list based on which apprenticeships will be offered on the spot.
